8 Ways To Embrace Hygge This Autumn

It’s only September and I have already worn my winter coat, stocked up on my favourite Lush bubble bath and spent more nights in cosied up than I can count. I love the start of autumn and even more so I love to embrace hygge! The whole concept has really helped me to value self care and motivate me to take more time out for myself. Hygge [pronounced ‘hoo-gah’] is a danish way of life where they celebrate cosiness and togetherness every single day!

Embrace the simple pleasures of the new season. This year I want to make the most of the simple pleasures such as walking through crunchy orange leaves, sitting by the fire and shopping for my winter wardrobe! It’s my favourite time of year so I want to embrace every second.

Indulge in your favourite hot drink. Whether it’s a seasonal spiced coffee, a hot chocolate topped with fluffy marshmallows or a simple cup of tea, this is the easiest way to make every day a little more hygge!

Prepare your house for evenings in. I’m planning on creating a little cosy nook this year for reading, blogging and watching ‘Bake Off’ – this picture is exactly what I want to recreate! In terms of homeware I’m obsessed with this blush pink chair  and this brushed copper floor lamp.

Spend more time outside. Although we have the tendency to hibernate come September going on a wintery walk is such a good way to beat the post summer blues and of course lift your mood!

Stock up on your favourite Lush essentials. A candlelit bubble bath on a crisp morning is my favourite guilty pleasure. I’m obsessed with this bubble bar and I currently have my eye on the new in halloween collection.

Shop for a winters supply of new PJ’s! I don’t know about you but I seem to spend more time in pyjamas than actual clothes in the autumn/winter months. I love this autumnal set from ASOS, this blush pink set* from Shein and this polka dot set from Cath Kidston. Nothing makes me feel more at home than a cup of tea and some cosy loungewear.

Update your home for the new season. One of my favourite ways to embrace hygge is by updating my home. I love adding candles to every room, my favourites are from The White Company as they always remind me of winter! My go-to scents are ‘Pomegranate’ and ‘Winter’.

Bookmark your favourite comfort food recipes. I’ve already got a long list of recipes to make this year that are beautifully autumnal. This simple pumpkin, maple and pecan granola looks delicious, as well as this salted caramel apple crumble and for something more savoury this sweet potato mac and cheese looks amazing!

What are your favourite ways to embrace hygge?

  • Love this so much!! I just moved into my new apartment and I’m sooo ready for all the cozy Fall/Winter nights snuggling up with my pup. I’m definitely excited to bake up some treats and make some hot cocoa for those cooler nights. I need to get on with reading my Hygge book!
