A couple of weeks ago I spent a few days in Amsterdam as part of a late birthday trip from my boyfriend. Amsterdam is one of those places that’s totally taken off in the last couple of months and everyone seems to be there or going there all at once. Although I was totally excited to go, I really didnt know what to expect and I really didn’t think I’d come away feeling like I do now.
We woke up to the sun shining and were hit by the fresh, spring air the minute we left the hotel. I absolutely love waking up somewhere new as it instantly motivates and inspires me. Everything was so beautiful from the mismatched canal houses to the little boutique shops on every street. The best part is everything was really close together and it was super easy to get around. Although we wanted to hire bikes we were totally smitten with just wandering around aimlessly. Instead, we settled for watching the locals ride by from the sides of the canals and snapping pictures at every opportunity.
Heading out at the start of each day looking for a breakfast spot was more than enough to get us up and out early-ish. There was so much choice when it came to eating out, we were totally spoilt as everything looked amazing! One thing they do really well is food for veggies. There was such an amazing selection and I didn’t feel as though I was missing out at all.
It wasn’t hard to find a photogenic spot as Amsterdam was seriously one of the most beautiful, picturesque places ever! Even though city breaks can be quite full on and tiring I felt really refreshed from the laid back vibe. Our main priority was just to soak up the sights, dip in and out of shops and stop for a hot drink whenever we stumbled across somewhere cute. Which FYI, was pretty much every other street! (See my guide here.)
I will definitely be planning a trip back soon but this time with more than just hand luggage! The shops were honestly something else and if it was possible I would have brought back a tonne of plants, a house full of homeware accessories and sweet treats for the year! I have honestly never seen such beautiful interiors as I did in Amsterdam.
So if this little introduction to wasn’t a good enough reason to jump on the next flight there then 48 hours would be all you need to fall in love with the city!
Have you ever visited Amsterdam?
